The connection between the pelvic diaphragm, glottis, and floor of the mouth
Midwives have known for a long time the connection between the jaw and pelvic diaphragm and how encouraging mothers to sigh and relax their jaw can help ease pelvic holding. In clinical practice, I often see a connection between jaw tension and pelvic diaphragm holding and research is now also exploring these connections.
Did you know the glottis, floor of the mouth and pelvic diaphragm have a functional connection and fascial connection. We have the thoracic cavity and abdominal cavity separated by the respiratory diaphragm, at the top of the thoracic cavity we have the glottis and vocal folds, and at the bottom of the abdominal cavity is the pelvic diaphragm.
There is a coordination between the pelvic diaphragm, respiratory diaphragm, and glottis in breathing. The three structures descend on inhale and elevate on exhale.
In this two-hour webinar, we will look at the anatomy of these structures, along with the functional and fascial connections.
We will explore how easing jaw and throat tension can ease pelvic diaphragm tension.
We will also look at how a change in phonation and vocal cues, and tongue position can assist to either help with facilitating pelvic diaphragm contraction or easing hypertonicity.
The webinar will consist of theory, exploration, manual techniques, and client homework.
